Fleeting moments, lucid dreams, glowing mysteries, blurry memories. We are all looking for havens in our lives, for little sanctuaries under warm neon light where our dreams and longings can take form. The continuous struggle between hiding and seeking, between movement and stillness, between the impermanence of the moment and the immortality of a photograph or a canvas is the focus of my art.
My works take us on a journey into our subconsciousness where our deepest memories are kept and which is only accessible to us in our dreams. There, people and places float up to the surface and manifest for a brief moment only to sink back into the depths of our mind. Setting your gaze on my photographs, you might encounter long lost dreams and memories and take them back to your inner doorstep. They make you relive the chaotic silhouettes of figures in the night, the attempt to remember the face of a beautiful stranger on the street or the comforting sight of a sacred place under warm street lights. You get intimate glances at the people around you and are lucky to become part of their lives in passing as they become part of yours, for an ever so fleeting and fragile moment.
With my camera I paint life's fragile and intimate entanglements, in sometimes detailed, sometimes abstract smudges of vivid color, giving the viewer the chance to find their stories in my photographic tales. Dreamlike, once the eye has focussed on the blurred impressions, they escape once again, flashing by like the tail lights of city cars. But sometimes, only sometimes, the veil is lifted and the world of neon signs, little houses, and painted lips lies before us in all its explicit perfection and colorful vibrance. This play between the defined and the undefined dares the beholder to dive into my very personal works and invites them to peel away layers of meaning or to simply get lost in swipes of color.
